Family Hack of the Week

These Chocolate Chunk Blondies from Food Network are a delicious way to celebrate National Blonde Brownie Day on January 22. This recipe yields 12 rich, decadent treats.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease and flour an 8x12x2-inch baking pan.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream 2 sticks of unsalted, room-temperature butter with 1 cup lightly packed light brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated sugar on high speed for about three minutes, until light and fluffy. Reduce the mixer speed to low and add 2 teaspoons vanilla, then 2 extra-large, room-temperature eggs one at a time, mixing well and scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

In a small bowl, sift together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt. With the mixer on low, gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until just combined. Using a rubber spatula, fold in 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts and 1 1/4 pounds semisweet chocolate chunks.

Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 30 minutes, being careful not to overbake; a toothpick inserted may not come out clean. Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
